COW Inception

Pingali Rajeswari founded "Computers on Wheels" for People-Centered Development (C.O.W.) as one of the inaugural fellows for the Reuters – Stanford University Digital Vision Program. First Batch of Reuters Fellows were Pingali Rajeswari, Mark Stevenson , Enrica Porcari , Ken Novak, Melanie Edwards and Atanu Dey (photo- left to right).

C.O.W. is designed specifically to cut through the traditional barriers of poor infrastructure, lack of investment, and challenges of illiteracy. It is a model for fostering information-enabled and empowered villages. Some of the people and organizations who supported the initiative and worked on the project were a group of students from Computers Science Department of Stanford University, Whipsaw inc, an industrial designer group based in San Jose, California, USA, Greenstar Foundation from Los Angles, USA Digital Partners Brain trust from Seattle, USA, The Global Catalyst Foundation from San Jose, USA and Villages in Partnership in Mahboobnagar District, India.
